Interview: Katja Kassin

How did you start in the industry and at what point did you decide to make the move to the American market?
I pretty much just did nude modelling and some solo fetish work in Germany before I met the German porn star Dru Berrymore. I thought about starting to do movies but in Germany I never really found anybody that I wanted to work with. So I just shot two movies in Europe to try it out and then I bought a plane ticket to L.A. and came to the US for the first time in March 2003. I would say I started my porn career in the US. I made the move because there are more opportunities here than in Europe for me.

What things have you found whilst doing porn that you would never have tried in your personal sex life beforehand?
I had done anal in my personal life but I was not really very experienced sexually. I never had sex with somebody I didn't know. I only had sex in long term relationships, never casually. Plus all the crazy things like sex with more than one partner at the same time, dp, facials and so on… I also never had sex with a girl before I started doing porn. I wouldn't say I “found” those things. While I'm having fun performing and showing myself off on camera, I'm still pretty low key and normal in my personal life. I have a boyfriend and only have sex with him in my personal life. So I leave the crazyness for work.

What sex acts do you draw the line at and refuse to do?
I don't do cream pies because the health risk is too high in my eyes.

You now have your own official website Club Katja, how is that going for you and how is it different to working for other companies?
I love it because I can interact with my fans more. They can request scenes and send me their suggestions about outfits and set ups. It's a lot of fun and of course I enjoy being the boss and making all decisions from when and where to shoot to who I want to work with and what outfit I want to wear.



You have a very large fan base that you interact with through your site but how do you react when you're recognised in public?
It happens so much: every time when I'm at the airport, at the grocery store or when I get gas. I don't wear much make up or stripper clothes in my personal life so it's kind of surprising people still recognize me but as long as they are friendly I don't mind it really. It is a little bit creepy though, I mean all of a sudden everybody knows who you are. Weird but it just shows they are watching my movies so that's good and hopefully they pay for it and don't download it illegally somewhere.

What differences (if any) are there between working for internet companies and DVD companies and which do you prefer?
I think internet is the future, that's where the money is going and that's where the money is being made. I just got back from the Phoenix Forum and it's amazing how things have changed in the last 5 years. You can just tell from how much money the sponsors put into the show and give-away merchandise. For me as a performer it's not a big difference whether the scene is going to be published on a website or on DVD. I personally try to acknowledge the fact that the adult industry goes web by showing up at the webmaster conventions and by investing my time into my own website.

What have been your best and worst experiences in your years working in porn?
I really don't like to talk publicly about negative experiences. Yes, they exist and everybody has to deal with them but I hate gossip drama and that's why I just focus on the positive sides of it all. I think that should be the overall motto anyway. There are many great people that I have met over the years and that I love working for and with.

Is there somebody past or present that you haven't worked with but would like to?
I would love to shoot with Brianna Love or Lexi Belle.

And who are your favourite guys/girls that you have worked with?
Jada Fire is the bomb and as far as guys go, as long as they show up on time and can do the job without harassing me before or after the scene it's all dick to me.

If you could change one thing about the industry what would it be?
I really don't like the health risks that come with it but I also know condom scenes don't sell so it's kind of a dilemma but in a perfect world I guess I would like to use protection and fans wouldn't mind watching it because they would support their favourite porn star to have fun and be safe at the same time.



What do you like to do with your day(s) when you're not working?
I'm working out with my trainer and kick boxing 3 times a week. I love to go to the movies or watch CSI Miami. I don't smoke or drink and I'm not a party person. I don't like going out and large crowds so I'm more of a quiet home buddy.

Is there anything you miss from your home country now you are based in the US?
Hershey's chocolate is the worst. You can get European chocolate here but I hate how it's so expensive here.

Favourite city in the world?
It's hard to say. Maybe Zurich, Switzerland but if I say that people in Germany are going to be pissed I didn't mention my home town Leipzig…

Sushi

Favourite movie(s) of all time?

What does the future hold for Katja Kassin? What are your plans for your website and future career in the industry?
I don't know. I just live it, not day by day because I'm not that clueless but I would say year by year. During the next year I want to show up on more adult conventions to win more affiliate partners for my site and I'm also working on putting out my content on a DVD.
